Introduction
The Wharf - Thrapston
Thrapston is small market town in Northamptonshire. Sensitively located on the edge of the town, the site was a 10 acre brownfield site with river frontage. Its previous use was formerly as an aggregate plant.
RDC worked closely with the land owners in bringing the site forward for development and liaised closely with East Northants District Council in achieving a planning consent. Keen to innovate, a shared surface road network was proposed which met resistance from the County Council; through close liaison this was eventually accepted.
A feature of the site is a large area of woodland which will be cleared of tipped rubbish, enhanced and handed to the parish council. A wharf style apartment building was designed as a feature at the site entrance to echo the riverside setting.
