Introduction

Fairfield Park - Letchworth

Client: Charles Church

Fairfield Park is situated outside Letchworth Garden City in Hertfordshire. A former mental hospital, the main hospital building was constructed during the 19th century and is Grade II listed. Planning Permission was granted in 2002 for the redevelopment of the buildings into apartments and the construction 695 dwellings.

RDC personnel were initially involved with Westbury and subsequently retained by Charles Church for ongoing land parcels. Working closely with the planning and conservation officers at Mid Beds Council, a new range of accurately detailed and proportioned house types informed by the Victorian detailing of the hospital were created.

The development is now largely complete and the overall impression is one of a very high quality environment which blends effectively with the listed building and landscape setting.
